Privacy policy
Effective 1 August 2026 · Updated 1 October 2026
OopsPaid is an expense tracker made by Shreyash Digitals ("we"). This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: your expenses stay on your phone. We don't have servers, accounts or ads, and we can't see your data. If you turn on Google Drive backup, a copy goes to your own Google Drive, which we can't see either.
What the app stores
- The expenses you add or scan: amount, merchant, category, date, payment method, notes, tags and, for scanned payments, the UPI reference number.
- Income you add (for your savings rate), your savings goals, and the names of friends you split expenses with.
- Your budgets, bills and subscriptions, and settings (theme, budget alerts, the category you chose for each merchant and similar).
All of this is saved in the app's private storage on your phone. It is not sent to us. The only copy that leaves your phone is the Google Drive backup, and only if you turn it on.
Payment screenshots
When you scan a screenshot, the text in the image is read on your phone by Google ML Kit's on-device text recognition. The image and its text are not uploaded. OopsPaid does not keep a copy of the image: only the details you confirm are saved as an expense.
If you attach a receipt photo to an expense, a copy of that photo is kept in the app's private storage on your phone. Backup files you save yourself don't include it (they only note which expense had a photo). If you have OopsPaid Premium and Google Drive backup is on, a copy is also kept in your own Google Drive, next to your backups (see below). Removing the photo or deleting the expense deletes it from your phone, and from Drive at the next backup.
To pick a screenshot the app uses Android's photo picker, and to take a photo it opens your camera app. OopsPaid can only see the images you choose.
If you turn on Find new payment screenshots (off by default), OopsPaid asks for access to your photos. It then looks only at your Screenshots folder: when you open the app, and about every 15 minutes in the background while the setting is on. It reads new screenshots on your phone and, if one is a payment you haven’t added, shows a notification or a card on Home. Nothing is saved until you confirm it. Other photos aren’t read, and nothing leaves your phone. You can turn this off in Settings, or remove photo access in Android settings, at any time.
Quick add by voice
If you tap the microphone in Quick add, Android's own speech recognition screen opens (usually Google's). OopsPaid itself doesn't record audio and has no microphone permission; it only receives the words you said, as text, to fill in the form. Android may recognise speech on the phone or through Google's servers, depending on your phone and settings; Google handles that under its own privacy policy.
Information sent to Google
Google ML Kit may contact Google's servers to receive updates and to send anonymous metrics about how the text-recognition feature performs (for example, device type and processing time). These metrics don't include your images, the text in them or your expenses. Google handles them under its own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
If you install OopsPaid from Google Play, Google Play may also collect information under Google's terms, such as crash reports if you've turned those on for your device.
Google Drive backup
Google Drive backup is off until you turn it on in Settings. When you do, you choose a Google account and allow OopsPaid to use its own app folder in that account's Google Drive (the "drive.appdata" permission). OopsPaid then:
- saves a backup file there straight away, and again about once a week when you open the app. With OopsPaid Premium it does this about once a day instead, also when the app isn't open (Android runs it in the background when your phone has a network connection). The file has the same data as a backup you save yourself: your expenses, budgets, bills and subscriptions, income, goals, splits and settings. App lock is not included. With OopsPaid Premium, your receipt photos are saved in the same app folder too; without Premium they stay on your phone only.
- keeps the 7 newest backup files and deletes older ones.
- reads a backup file (and its receipt photos) only when you choose Restore.
The app folder is hidden: it doesn't show up among your Drive files, and other apps can't open it. OopsPaid can't see any of your other Drive files. It also receives your Google account's name and email address, to show which account backups go to; they stay on your phone.
The backup travels directly from your phone to Google over an encrypted connection. We don't receive it and have no copy. Google stores it under its own privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy), and it counts toward your Google storage.
You can turn Google Drive backup off in Settings at any time, and choose to delete the backups in Drive when you do. You can also remove OopsPaid's access at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions, or delete its hidden data in Google Drive › Settings › Manage apps.
OopsPaid Premium purchases
If you buy Premium, you pay Google Play, not us. Google handles your payment details under its own privacy policy; OopsPaid never sees them. The app asks Google Play which OopsPaid purchases your Google account owns (when you open it, and when you tap Restore purchase) and keeps only whether Premium is on and which plan, on your phone.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, OopsPaid shows budget alerts, reminders for your bills and subscriptions, and, only if you turn them on, a daily reminder, a cash reminder, a weekly summary of last week's spending and new payments found in your screenshots. They are created on the phone; nothing is sent over the internet.
Sharing
OopsPaid only shares something when you ask it to: a split reminder or your Wrapped card opens Android's share sheet, and you choose the app and the person. OopsPaid itself doesn't send it anywhere.
Exporting your data
Settings › Export data saves your expenses as a CSV file to a place you choose. After that, the file is under your control.
Deleting your data
- Settings › Delete data removes all expenses, budgets and custom categories from the app.
- Uninstalling OopsPaid removes everything it stored on your phone.
- Google Drive backups stay in your Drive until you delete them: turn off Google Drive backup in Settings and choose to delete the backups, or delete OopsPaid's hidden data in Google Drive › Settings › Manage apps.
Because we never receive your data, we have no copy to delete or share.
Children
OopsPaid is intended for people aged 18 and over.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have rights over your personal data. Since OopsPaid data stays on your device (and, if you turn on backup, in your own Google Drive), you can view, correct, export and erase it yourself in the app at any time. For any question or complaint, contact us below.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the effective date. If a future version adds features like sign-in or sync, the policy will explain them before they are switched on.
